How many watch hours do I need?

4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months, with 1,000 subscribers — that is today's Partner Program bar. From February 1, 2027, new applicants need 8,000 hours. The Shorts path is 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days today, 20 million from February 2027.

What counts — and what quietly does not

✓ Public, long-form watch time counts. Hours from private, unlisted, or deleted videos do not.
✓ Shorts Feed watch hours do not count toward the watch-hour bar. Shorts have their own path, measured in views.
✓ Watch time bought through ad campaigns does not count as qualified hours.
✓ The window rolls: hours older than 12 months fall off, which is why a slow channel can stand still while uploading.

Your real distance, computed

Subtracting is not enough — the rolling window and the February deadline change the answer. The free readiness checker takes your hours, your daily pace, and your subscriber count, and returns your distance to both bars with dates.

Worked example

A channel with 2,400 hours gaining 12 hours a day is 1,600 hours short — about 134 days at that pace. Counted from late October 2026, that lands in March 2027: after the bar doubles. Its real target is not 4,000 hours; it is 8,000, and its real distance is 5,600 hours. This is the mistake the checker exists to catch.
